Richard Gibbs leads the Albert Island project for London and Regional Properties and was the strategic designer of other major developments across the south east including spearheading the transformation of the Olympic Park’s media centre into the UK’s largest digital ecosystem (Here East).
Richard’s cross sector and cross industry expertise gives him an ideal perspective on the sustainable regeneration opportunities for Albert Island.
“We’re very excited about the future for Albert Island. It is located where the river, road, rail and runway networks meet. We therefore aim for this Island to be the UK’s first transport engineering hub – the “toolkit” for London supplying all four sectors. This project is enormously important for both East London and for London as whole, and we know it will bring huge benefits to local people in Newham and the neighbouring boroughs. At the project’s maturity, we would hope that the Island will be populated with the types of organisations and businesses that echo the strong manufacturing and engineering traditions which have always been part of East London – employing, we estimate, between five and six thousand people.”
